Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his parents and a commitment in the local community. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon, who had him raised on the family farm near Eufala. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as Oklahoma's main man. In his role as an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third season in 1975. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. Then he settled in Tampa after college, played with the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. The business venture he started began. He was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young males. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Florida's sports department as Director of Athletics as an associate. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
